MONICA BELLUCCI – TEMPTING ITALIAN ACTRESS

Monica Anna Maria Bellucci was born on 30 September 1964. She is an Italian actress and fashion model. Bellucci was born in Città di Castello, Umbria, Italy as the only child of Luigi Bellucci, who owned a trucking company, and Maria Gustinelli, a painter. Bellucci started modelling at 16, when she was attending the Liceo classico. Initially pursuing a career as a lawyer, Bellucci modeled to pay her tuition at the University of Perugia, but the lifestyle tempted her away from her law studies. She speaks Italian, French, and English fluently, Spanish semi-fluently, and she has had speaking roles in each of these languages as well as in Aramaic for her part as Mary Magdalene in The Passion of the Christ.

Bellucci is currently married to French actor Vincent Cassel, with whom she has appeared in several films. They have two daughters, Deva (born 2004) and Léonie (born 2010). In 2004, while pregnant with Deva, Bellucci posed nude for the Italian Vanity Fair Magazine in protest against Italian laws that prevent the use of donor sperm. She posed pregnant and semi-nude again for the magazine’s April 2010 issue.

In the documentary movie The Big Question, about the film The Passion of the Christ, she stated: “I am an agnostic, even though I respect and am interested in all religions. If there’s something I believe in, it’s a mysterious energy; the one that fills the oceans during tides, the one that unites nature and beings.”

MODELING:

In 1988, Bellucci moved to one of Europe’s fashion centers, Milan, where she signed with Elite Model Management. By 1989, she was becoming prominent as a fashion model in Paris and across the Atlantic, in New York City. She posed for Dolce & Gabbana and French Elle, among others. In that year, Bellucci made the transition to acting and began taking acting classes. The February 2001 Esquire’s feature on Desire featured Ms. Bellucci on the cover and in an article on the five senses. In 2003, she was featured in Maxim. In 2004, she topped AskMen’s 100 Most Beautiful Women in the World annual list. Bellucci’s modelling career is managed by Elite+ in New York City. She is considered an Italian sex symbol. She is currently a face of a range of Dior Cosmetics. Bellucci is signed to D’management group in Milan and also to Storm Model Management in London.

MOVIES:

Bellucci’s film career began in the early 1990s. She played some minor roles in La Riffa (1991) and Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992). In 1996 she was nominated for a César Award for best supporting actress for her portrayal of Lisa in L’Appartement and strengthened her position as an actress. She became known and popular with worldwide audiences, following her roles in Malèna (2000), Brotherhood of the Wolf, and Irréversible (2002). She has since played in many films from Europe and Hollywood like Tears of the Sun (2003), The Matrix Reloaded (2003), The Passion of the Christ (2004), The Brothers Grimm (2005), Le Deuxième souffle (2007), Don’t Look Back (2009), and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (2010).

She was supposed to be seen portraying Indian politician Sonia Gandhi in the biopic Sonia, originally planned for release in 2007, but it has been shelved.

Bellucci dubbed her own voice for the French and Italian releases of the film Shoot ‘Em Up (2007). She also voiced Kaileena in the video game Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, and the French voice of Cappy for the French version of the 2005 animated film Robots.

ANGEL LOCSIN – GORGEOUS FILIPINO MODEL

Angel Locsín (born Angélica Locsín Colmenares on April 23, 1985 in Bulacan, Philippines) is a Filipina television and film actress who was introduced in the youth-oriented program of GMA Network entitled Click. Locsin rose to prominence after being casted as one of the lead stars in the fantasy-themed television series Mulawin in 2004. Soon after she headlined as the titular superheroine Darna in the TV adaptation of the popular Mars Ravelo comics hit. Locsin top-billed in several chartbusting films and is widely famous as the love pair of Richard Gutierrez and Dennis Trillo.

LIFE & CAREER:

Locsín grew up in Bulacan and was the second child in a brood of three. Her parents were separated when she was fourteen and she has since lived with her father. Locsin’s career in show business began after she was spotted by a talent scout when she cut class with a friend while shopping at SM Mall. She auditioned for several commercials and soon after she landed a contract with GMA Network.

Locsín first appeared in Click, a teen-oriented program on the GMA Network, as the tomboyish Charley (short for Charlotte) where she was paired with (Railey Valeroso). However, she only became widely known when she first appeared on the cover of FHM Philippines. The same magazine frequently lists her as one the “100 Sexiest Women in the World”, as well as sexiest Filipina, ranking No. 2 behind Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie. She has also been known the current sex symbol of the Philippines.

After appearing in Click, Locsin gained further exposure as she was cast in television shows like Ang Iibigin Ay Ikaw Pa Rin, All Together Now and Love to Love

In 2004, Locsin received what is considered her biggest break yet. She starred as one of the lead stars in the telefantasya Mulawin. After her role as the half-human, half-avian Alwina where got to be paired with Aguiluz (Richard Gutierrez),she auditioned for the title role of the classic Filipina superhero in Darna television series. She won the part hands down, and was chosen to don the iconic red suit and crest among numerous actresses who tried out. Locsin reunited with former love team Dennis Trillo as they top-bill in GMA’s newest fantasy-themed series, Majika.

Aside from television, Locsín also starred in films. Among her big screen credits are Kuya, Mano Po 2, Singles, Sigaw and in 2005 the box-office hit Let The Love Begin, alongside perennial partner Richard Gutierrez. Her team-up with Gutierrez is considered by some as one of the best pairings in the country. She reprised her role as Alwina in the movie adaptation of Mulawin.

Locsin also had her fair share of controversy after appearing in one of the Axe TV ads, many feminist groups, as well as former Senator Nikki Coseteng, complained about the offensive gestures in the advertisement. In the television commercial, Angel is teasing a man by showing off money and her body but the man approaches Angel and takes only her money. Because of the complaints, Unilever Philippines, the maker of Axe, slowly pulled out the commercial.

Locsin, on 21 April 2006, spent a pre-21st birthday get-together with close friends and relatives in Aurora Ville Resort. After a short program hosted by Joel Almagro, Locsin thanked the organizers for a simple but sincere effort to make her day complete. This, after spending the whole day with kids with various medical conditions and giving free medical aid.

The family lived in Washington, D.C. in 1984 and then Connecticut in 1988, before finally settling down in Syosset, New York in 1990. Natalie Portman is an only child and very close to her parents, who are often seen with her at movie premieres; her mother always accompanied pre-adult Portman to movie shoot locations. Natalie Portman started taking dancing lessons at the age of four, performed in local troupes, and dreamed of dancing on Broadway. At the age of ten Portman was discovered in a pizza parlor by an agent for Revlon, who offered her an opportunity to model. She asked to be introduced to acting talent scouts, and took “Portman”, her grandmother’s maiden name, as her professional stage surname.

Starting at age 13, Natalie Portman spent her school holidays attending upscale theatre camps Stagedoor Manor and Usdan Camp, where she forged her love for acting, playing roles in the camp productions such as the title character in Anne of Green Gables, Dream Laurey in Oklahoma! and Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In 1993 Natalie Portman was handed her first professional role as an understudy for the off-Broadway musical Ruthless!. Her inaugural experience in professional theatre led her to audition for Luc Besson’s 1994 film Leon (aka The Professional). She was intially turned down for the role due to her youth, but further auditioning won her the part. Soon after Portman was given the part, she took Portman as her stage name in the interest of privacy. In the film, Portman plays an orphaned girl who befriends a much older assassin. Leon opened on November 18, 1994 and marked her feature film debut at age thirteen. That same year appeared in the short film Developing which aired on television.

KELLY BROOK – BRITISH MODEL

Kelly Brook ( full name Kelly Ann Parsons) was born on November 23, 1979. She is an English model, television presenter, and movie & TV actress. After leaving school in Rochester, Kelly Brook studied at the Italia Conti stage school in London for three years before becoming a professional model. Kelly Brook’s early work was in a range of advertising campaigns, including for the new “Bravissimo” company that specializes in bras and lingerie for full-figured women, and for Foster’s beer. Kelly Brook is 5’8″ tall, and her figure is very well suited for Bravissimo. Her figure caught the eye of the editorial team of the Daily Star who began featuring her as a page 3 girl. Kelly Brook’s picture soon began appearing in other lad mags such as FHM (and repe atedly landing in its list of the “100 Sexiest Women of the Year”) and Loaded.

Kelly Brook’s talent can be traced back to when she attended the prestigious Italia Conte stage school, where Naomi Campbell and Louise Nurding also studied. After 3 years of training in dance, singing, and acting, Kelly was ready to start her career. Kelly Brook’s mum entered her in a beauty contest, which of course she won, and led to her interest in modeling. After some small modeling jobs at local firms, including the flooring company KMS, Kelly Brook was gracing the cover of GQ, FHM, Sky, Cosmopolitan, Tatler, The Face, and Company by the age of 16.

Kelly Brook’s gorgeous physique also slipped into Lee jeans, as part of its advertising campaign, and she was known for playing the game show hostess ”Nicky with the Ticky” for a Sure deodorant TV ad. Kelly Brook was finally making a larger salary, as compared to her waitressing job at a tea shop. More modeling jobs came Kelly Brook’s way, such as print campaigns for Renault Megane, Walkers, Piz Buin, and the Triumph Flaunt underwear and bra line. The latter featured Kelly Brook on a billboard in London, said to be the largest billboard in the world – all the more to see Kelly.

Although Kelly Brook was appearing in ads all over the UK, she hit the big time when she won the position of Big Breakfast presenter on Britain’s Channel 4. It was Kelly Brook’s dream come true, since she was more interested in being a presenter than acting or singing. Rumor has it that Kelly Brook quit Big Breakfast after the tabloids published that the show was going to fire her for being ”too dumb.” Well, she beat them to it by resigning. After Big Breakfast, Kelly Brook was busy hosting MTV’s Select. It was the perfect move for her, as she wanted to be involved with presenting hip music to young fans, because of her interest in dance. Kelly Brook topped the 2005 FHM list, which was said to have polled 15 million people. In a poll over 5000 women in April 2005 for Grazia magazine she was considered to have the best British female body. Kelly Brook has also done a large amount of commercial swimwear, sportswear, and hosiery modeling, and a limited amount of nude & semi-nude modeling.

Kelly Brook is currently engaged to actor Billy Zane, having previously dated actor Jason Statham. Her big break into mainstream presenting came in January 1999 when she was chosen to replace Denise van Outen as the female half of The Big Breakfast presenting team, alongside Johnny Vaughan. Kelly Brook remained for half a year and then parted company with the show in July 1999 under unclear circumstances. Initial reports suggested that she had resigned, but later it was suggested that in fact Brook had been sacked, and only learned about it while vacationing. In either case, most television reviewers said that Kelly Brook was too inexperienced for the role, and cited a leaked memo from the production staff to the show’s writers, recommending that they avoid giving her “difficult words” in her scripts. Vaughan, in an interview with Heat, condemned these attacks as inaccurate and vindictive, especially towards a young presenter. Kelly Brook appeared presenting again on national TV in 2005 in “Celebrity Love Island”, with Irish comedian Patrick Kielty, and her hosting abilities were slated once again by TV critics.

Kelly Brook also stars in School for Seduction, a 2004 film. Kelly Brook recently starred in a Miss Marple drama on ITV. Her forthcoming film Three, in which she co-starred with fiance Zane, caused some minor controversy when Brook and Zane requested her nude scenes be excised from the final cut, which the producers refused to do. Kelly Brook recently confessed that she was a naughty babysitter during her younger years. One of her clients owned a huge collection of porn films and she just couldn’t help taking advantage of it. “When I was younger, I used to babysit for a couple who had a huge collection of naughty videos,” she told Loaded magazine.” My friends would all come round and we’d sit and watch them.”

SHARUKH KHAN – THE KING KHAN OF BOLLYWOOD

Khan was born to Muslim parents of Pathan ethnicity in New Delhi, India. His father, Taj Mohammed Khan was a freedom activist from Peshawar, British India. His mother Lateef Fatima was the adopted daughter of Major General Shah Nawaz Khan of the Janjua Rajput clan, who served as a General in the Indian National Army of Subash Chandra Bose.

Khan’s father came to New Delhi from Qissa Khawani Bazaar in Peshawar before the Partition of India, while his mother’s family came from Rawalpindi, also in present-day Pakistan. Khan has an elder sister named Shehnaz. Khan attended St. Columbia’s School where he was accomplished in sports, drama and academics. He won the Sword of Honour, an annual award bequeathed to the student who embodies most the spirit of the school. He later attended the Hansraj College (1985-1988) to earn an Honors degree in Economics. After this, he studied for a Masters Degree in Mass Communications at Jamia Millia Islamia. After the death of his parents, Khan moved from New Delhi to Mumbai in 1991. In that same year, before any of his film releases, he married Gauri Khan in a Hindu wedding ceremony on October 25, 1991. They have two children, son Aryan Khan (born 1997) and daughter Suhana (born 2000).

In 2005, Nasreen Munni Kabir produced a two-part documentary on Khan, titled The Inner and Outer World of Shah Rukh Khan. Featuring his 2004 Temptations concert tour, the film contrasted Khan’s inner world of family and daily life with the outer world of his work. The book Still Reading Khan, which details his family life, was released in 2006. Another book by Anupama Chopra, “King of Bollywood: Shahrukh Khan and the seductive world of Indian cinema”, was released in 2007. This book described the world of Bollywood through Khan’s life. Khan’s life-size wax statue is available in Madame Tussauds wax museum, London, installed in April 2007. Khan has been chosen for the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of the Arts and Literature) award of the French government for his “exceptional career”.CAREER

AS AN ACTOR

Khan studied acting under celebrated Theatre Director Barry John at Delhi’s Theatre Action Group (TAG). In 2007, John commented thus on his former pupil “The credit for the phenomenally successful development and management of Shah Rukh’s career goes to the superstar himself.”

Khan made his acting debut in 1988 when he appeared in the television series, Fauji, playing the role of Commando Abhimanyu Rai. He went on to appear in several other television serials, appearing most notably in the 1989 serial, Circus (directed by Aziz Mirza), which depicted the life of circus performers. The same year, Khan also had a minor role in the made-for-television English-language film, In Which Annie Gives it Those Ones, which was based on life at Delhi University and was written by Arundhati Roy.

After the death of his parents, Khan moved from New Delhi to Mumbai in 1991. He made his Bollywood movie debut in Deewana (1992). The movie was a box office hit, and launched his career in Bollywood. His performance won him a Filmfare Best Male Debut Award. His second movie, Maya Memsaab, generated some controversy because of his appearance in an “explicit” sex scene in the movie.

In 1993, Khan won acclaim for his performances in villainous roles as an obsessive lover and a murderer, respectively, in the box office hits, Darr and Baazigar. Darr marked his first collboration with renowned film-maker Yash Chopra and his banner Yash Raj Films, the largest production company in Bollywood. Baazigar, which saw Khan portraying an ambiguous avenger who murders his girlfriend, shocked its Indian audience with an unexpected violation of the standard Bollywood formula, yet his performance won him his first Filmfare Best Actor Award. In that same year, Khan played the role of a young musician in Kundan Shah’s Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, a performance that earned him a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance. Khan himself maintains that this is his all-time favorite among the movies he has made. In 1994, Khan once again played an obsessive lover/psycho’s role in Anjaam. Though the movie was not a box office success, Khan’s performance earned him the Filmfare Best Villain Award. In 1995, Khan starred in Aditya Chopra’s directorial debut Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, a critical and commercial success, for which he won his second Filmfare Best Actor Award which entered its twelfth year in 2007 in Mumbai theaters. By then the movie had grossed over 12 billion rupees, making it as one of the biggest movie blockbusters.

1996 was a disappointing year for Khan as all his movies released that year failed to do well at the box office. His first 1997 release, Yash Chopra’s Dil to Pagal Hai, however, became that year’s second highest grossing movie, and he won his third Filmfare Best Actor Award. Earlier that year, he saw success with Subhash Ghai’s Pardes — one of the biggest hits of the year– and Aziz Mirza’s Yes Boss.

In 1998, Khan starred in Karan Johar’s directoial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which was the biggest hit of the year. His performance won him his fourth Best Actor award at the Filmfare. He won critical praise for his performance in Mani Ratnam’s Dil Se. This movie did not do well at the Indian box office, but was a commercial success overseas. Khan’s only release in 1999, Baadshah, was an average grosser.

In 2000, Khan starred in Aditya Chopra’s second film, Mohabbatein, co-starring Amitabh Bachchan. The film did well at the box office, and Khan’s performance won him his second Critics Award for Best Performance at the Filmfare. He also starred in Mansoor Khan’s Josh, which was also a box office success. In that same year, Khan set up his own production house, Dreamz Unlimited with Juhi Chawla. Both Khan and Chawla starred in the first movie of their production house, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani.

In 2001, Khan collaborated with Karan Johar for the second time in the family drama, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham which was the second biggest hit of the year. He also received favorable reviews for his performance as Emperor Asoka in the historical epic, Asoka.

In 2002, Khan received acclaim for playing the title role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s award-winning period romance, Devdas. It was the third Hindi movie adaptation of Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s well-known novel of the same name, and surfaced as one of the biggest hits of that year. Khan also starred opposite Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit in the family-drama Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, which did well at the box office.

In 2003, Khan starred in the moderately successful romantic drama, Chalte Chalte. That same year, he starred in the romantic drama movie, Kal Ho Naa Ho, written by Karan Johar and directed by Nikhil Advani. Khan’s performance in this movie as a man with heart disease was appreciated. The movie proved to be one of the year’s biggest hits in India and the biggest Bollywood hit overseas.

2004 was a good year for Khan, commercially as well as critically. He starred in Farah Khan’s directorial debut, Main Hoon Na. The movie did well at the box office. He then played the leading role of Veer in Yash Chopra’s Veer-Zaara, which was the biggest hit of 2004 in both India and overseas. Khan’s performance in the film won him awards at several award ceremonies. In that same year, he received critical praise for his performance in Ashutosh Gowariker’s Swades, which won him the Filmfare Best Actor Award for the sixth time, although the movie was a box office failure. He was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actor Award for all three of his releases in 2004, winning it for Swades.

Khan’s only movie release in 2005 was the fantasy film, Paheli. It was a box office failure, but won him acclaim. The movie was India’s nomination for the Oscars.

In 2006, Khan collaborated with Karan Johar for the fourth time with the melodrama movie, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. It did well in India and much more so in the overseas market, becoming the biggest Bollywood hit in the overseas market ever. His second release in that saw him playing the title role in the action film Don, a remake of the 1978 hit Don. The movie was a success.

Khan’s first release in 2007 was a film about the Indian women’s national hockey team, Chak De India. Earning over Rs 639 million, Chak De India became the third highest grossing movie of 2007 in India and was critically acclaimed. In addition, Khan received his seventh Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance as the coach of the team.

Khan also starred in Farah Khan’s 2007 film, Om Shanti Om. The film emerged as the year’s highest grossing film in India and the overseas market, as well as earned him another nomination for Best Actor at the Filmfare ceremony.

AS A PRODUCER

Khan turned producer when he set up a production company called Dreamz Unlimited with Juhi Chawla and director Aziz Mirza in 1999. The first two of the films he produced and starred in: Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (2000) and Asoka (2001) were box office failures. However, his third film, as a producer and star, Chalte Chalte (2003), was the first box office hit from his production house.

In 2004, he set up another production company called Red Chillies Entertainment and produced and starred in Main Hoon Na which was another hit at the box office. In 2005 he produced and starred in the fantasy film Paheli, which was a box office failure. It was India’s official entry to the Oscars for a nomination for Best Foreign Film, but it did not pass the final selection. That same year he also co-produced the supernatural horror film Kaal with Karan Johar and performed an item number for the film with Malaika Arora Khan. Kaal was moderately successful at the box office. The latest film Om Shanti Om, which he produced as well as starred in, has done very well at the box office. In 2008, The Red Chillies Entertainment became the owner of Kolkata Knight Riders in the BCCI backed IPL cricket league.

AS A TV HOST

In 2007, Khan replaced Amitabh Bachchan as the host of the third series of the popular game show Kaun Banega Crorepati, the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. The previous had hosted the show for five years from 2000-05. On January 22, 2007, Kaun Banega Crorepati aired with Khan as the new host and later ended on April 19, 2007.

On April 25, 2008, Khan began hosting the game show Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?, the Indian version of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?
